A Collaborative Self Portrait

As a professional photographer, I have and continue to work in many different genres of the field. While my background is in fine art photography the journey of life has currently led me in a more commercial path with primary focus in the lines of weddings, events, portraiture, and branding.
For this show I have created a new piece brings me back more to my love for fine arts and mixed media. This new work, titled: “Smoke & Mirrors: a collaborative self portrait” is a multi-faceted project that I hope the viewers take part in the goal of the overall project.
The image itself is taken in studio with a customized kaleidoscope lens, multiple lights and modifiers and a fog machine to create a rather surreal and multi-dimensional portrait which is then printed on perforated vinyl and fixed to an ornate mirror to be hung in the gallery.
I, like many photographers, am far more comfortable behind the camera than I am in front of it. My thought in this project is as someone views the piece with it being printed on the mirror, they then step “in front of my lens” becoming a part of the image itself as a “collaborative self portrait”. Each viewer will see the piece somewhat different from another as they become a piece of the artwork in the mirror.
